SEO and eVetSites
What is SEO? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, a general term for the process of optimizing your website for visibility and ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs). Optimizing a website means that the site has a higher chance of showing up for particular search terms. Search engines, like Google, Bing and Yahoo, use different criteria to rank sites including content, site structure, inbound links and more. Don't be intimidated by this technology, we can help!
How SEO works: Search engines compare the content on your page with the content people are searching for, and if it is relevant (matching) your site will show up in the search results. To begin with, search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. catalog the content on your site with programs called spiders. These search engines robots (sometimes called bots) scan your new eVetSite, then catalog the content of your site along with millions of other websites. From the day your site first goes live to the first time your site is crawled can take anywhere from a few days to a week or so.
When the content of your site matches someone's search terms, your site will display as a search result. Content is king and if you want your site to rank well it must have content that people are looking for. Search results and rankings will vary from one search engine to another, so there are no hard and fast rules that apply in all situations and search engines are constantly changing their algorithms to stay ahead of people trying to fool them in order to get to the top of the list. Search engine ranking changes day by day based on many factors including (but not limited to!) your geographic location, your Internet Service Provider, your search history and more.
