Creating Favicons

What is a Favicon?

Favicon (short for Favorites Icon) is a feature that makes it possible to associate a special logo or other small graphic with a web page.
The favicon is usually displayed next to the web site address. Much like the way shortcut icons are used on the computer desktop to distinguish computer programs and files, favicons can be used to personalize or brand your web sites.

Creating and Uploading Your Favicon

Start by choosing a graphic that is an even size.  (example: 30x30, 40x40).  Keep in mind that a Favicon is only 16 x 16 and your image will compress to that size, so try to keep it simple. In this example we are going to use http://favicon.cc but there are other sites that do this same thing.

Go to http://favicon.cc and click the import image button on the left.

Your screen will look like this: Click choose file to browse to your computer to upload an image which will then be converted into a .ico format.

Select your image and click open, this will upload the image and the site will convert it.

Now the page will display both a large version of the favicon, and a button at the bottom that says Download Favicon. Click that button and download the favicon to your desktop.

Next log into your website and go to the Admin section.

Then hover over Administration and click on Site Title and FavIcon

Then click on Upload a FavIcon

Click on Browse.

Find your favicon file you downloaded, click on it and then click Open.

Click on Update and go back to your site and look at the address bar!  You are all done!
